Nyla village in Jaipur district of rajasthan is a cluster area where we can find thousands of artisans specialised in gotta craft making.

It is believed that Jodha Bai,wife of the greatest Mughal emperor Akbar, used to wear gota embroidery on her garments.

Making
The making of Gotta-Patti embroidery is a fine, long and time-consuming process. The procedure starts with tying the base fabric to the chord of a wooden frame (khaat). The design is drawn or printed over the fabric by hand or by using a stencil.Based on the required design, Metallic or metal coated laces (gota) are cut into different shapes and are then back stitched and hemmed on to the fabric. Hemming or chain stitches are used to secure the gota or it may be secured using zari embroidery.

Gota motifs – Inspired by flora and fauna

Taking inspiration from nature, motifs such as Flowers, leaves, birds, and animals are some of the popular motifs used in Gota. And the very reason it is called Gota Patti is because it involves folding the golden and silver lace tapes in a way that forms the shape of a rhomboid which resembles the shape of a leaf(Patti). This Patti comes after the Gota work is done. Gota is the embroidery done in the shape of leaves, within which the patti work is done.
